The Benefits of Becoming a Parenting Coach

There are parents out there that are feeling helpless, losing hope, and don’t know where to turn next on their parenting journey. The yelling, the bribes, and the punishments don’t feel good to them and they want to make a change in their parenting.

But they just don’t know how…

At the Jai Institute for Parenting, we give parents reassurance that punishments and dominant methods are not necessary for parenting children well. We give parents hope that there is a better way and that it is never too late to move in a different direction of parenting and create the connection they’ve always longed to share with their children.

How is this possible?

Our community of passionate, committed coaches are lit up with being the change makers, peace bringers, and leaders for parents all over the world. Our parent coaches support families around the globe to create more peace, connection, and cooperation in their homes.

Why Become a Parenting Coach?

The number one reason to become a parenting coach is that you care deeply about kids and their wellbeing. Parent coaching nurtures the most precious and fragile kind of wellbeing: the emotional wellbeing of the child.

Through developments in neuroscience, we have been able to observe that the old parenting narrative of ”the child will be seen and not heard” and “you will do it because I said so” otherwise known as dominant or “power over” parenting, does not work in raising children who grow into adults that know their morals and values and have a deep sense of self worth. Children who are raised in this model become the leaders our future needs. They are emotionally intelligent, empathetic and courageous.

This is where you come in as a parenting coach. You really, really get how a child is impacted by their parents, and how much
unintentional harm is caused to children through dominant, or “power-over” parenting. And through this understanding, you get to provide parents with the tools to deconstruct the power-over -or- power-under methods of parenting and give parents the chance to parent their children in a new way - where all needs are met. So many parents know they want to parent differently, they simply don’t know how. As a parenting coach, you get to show them!

These tools aren’t solely for other parents and families. If you’re a parent yourself, the primary beneficiary of your journey to becoming a parenting coach is
your own family. You get to be the one who breaks any cycles of abuse, shame, guilt and emotional wounding in your lineage. Your own children will naturally pick-up on and model your new foundations of emotional intelligence, self-regulation and communication.

Lastly, from a career-lens, there’s a saying that if you love your work, you’ll never work a day in your life. Our coaches are extremely passionate about bringing these tools to their clients and customers. Not all of our coaches choose to launch a parent coaching business, but those who do realize how much demand there is for their coaching.

What do Parent Coaches do?

The job of a parenting coach is to support their clients to define family goals, establish family values, and to create rules, boundaries, and limits based on these frameworks, all while showing up in empathy and allowing the client to feel supported and seen.

A parent coach provides knowledge and tools as an educator, supporting parents to learn communication skills, and how to handle their own emotions, needs, and feelings in a way that ignites deeper connection with their children.

A parent coach is an advocate and support system for their clients. Shifting family dynamics, conditioned ways of thinking, and reactive behavior takes practice, feedback and accountability, which are all aspects that a parenting coach provides in their practice. A parenting coach is a leader who is committed to providing the best support and tools for the familial success of their clients.

Five Benefits of Being a Parenting Coach

1. Be your own boss and create a schedule that works for you, your family, and your clients.

2. Coach your clients from anywhere, anytime, doing work you love that aligns with your heart and your personal goals.

3. Create financial freedom with alternative revenue streams, such as hosting virtual group coaching programs, podcasts, books or courses.

4. Be a leader in your community by setting an example of what empowered, peaceful parenting looks like.

5. Improve your own parenting while also helping people seeking their own parenting transformations to improve their relationship with their kids.

How do you become a Certified Parenting Coach?

Becoming a Certified Parenting Coach requires choosing and going through a coaching certification program that matches your goals, learning styles, and values. It is critical to choose the right program for you. You’ll want to look at the values alignment, time commitment, and tuition (reputable coach training programs range from $3000 - $12,000).

Depending on the program, you can receive your coaching certification in 6-12 months. After receiving your certification, there comes a lot of powerful work in building your skills and business. Great coaches are made through coaching! Practice, practice, practice. Many of our students here at Jai work with several clients on a pro-bono basis, or for a small fee to gain confidence and competence. With Jai, you’ll grow as a coach as your business grows.

There are several key aspects to giving you the confidence and competence to thrive as a Jai Certified Parenting Coach...

1. Knowledge

Think of our program as a master’s degree in Empowered Parenting.™ In our
program, our students learn attachment science, nervous system science and the language of feelings and needs. Throughout the 24 weeks, our coaches-in-training gain exposure to proven coaching methodologies that allow us to do the profound work of allowing people to grow and transform as parents.

This component of our program is delivered in a learning management center through weekly training videos, reading assignments, written exercises, and cohort group sessions to support and provide empathy throughout the process of this work. Live cohort group sessions provide a space of not only interactive and hands-on learning, but also a supportive place to bring empathy, community, and connection during the training. It is for this reason that we have such a connected and rich community of coaches here at Jai.

2. Practice

Within each coach training cohort, a Jai student will be placed in a smaller group which functions as a practice coaching circle. Each week, our coaches in training are given specific practice exercises that support the weekly content. Together in small groups, our students practice coaching and are the practice clients for their fellow coaches-in-training, so that they can learn these new skills hands-on.

In the second-half of the 24-week training, our coaches-in-training take a practice client through the 12-week Ultimate Parenting Success Course so that they can get feedback and support, all while gaining confidence in the work.

3. Mentorship

Each cohort is led by a Jai Master Coach & Trainer. Our trainers are passionate advocates of this work, who will be there to support our coach trainees every step of the way. Our coach trainees learn so much from witnessing their trainer coach their fellow cohort members, while also having their own profound personal breakthroughs.
